Avenues for Homeless Youth

Avenues partners with youth experiencing homelessness to achieve their dreams.

For 25 years, Avenues has supported youth ages 16-24 in Hennepin County. Whether a young person needs someplace to stay for just one night, or a year and a half, Avenues empowers youth to find their path out of homelessness. We do that by providing a stable home, building trusting relationships, and navigating the youth’s education, career, health and wellness and housing goals.

At Avenues, we believe:

  • Homelessness does not define a person. It is just one part of a journey that we are here to help young people navigate.
  • All youth experiencing homelessness have or are experiencing trauma. Therefore, mental health is at the center of all our work.
  • There is no one reason why youth experience homelessness – it’s intersectional. Systems of oppression, racism and poverty are of the root causes of homelessness. Without addressing these systems, homelessness will persist.
  • Youth are resilient, inspiring, and the drivers of their own journey. With stability, trust and youth-centered supports, their dreams can become reality.

Avenues work is guided by the 9 Evidence-based, Guiding Principles to Help Youth Overcome Homeless and our core values: equity, community, respect and dignity, trust, liberation and anti-oppression.

Diversion Solutions – Driver’s License Reinstatement Program

Do not be fooled by other organizations that say they can reinstate your driver’s license.   Our Driver’s License reinstatement program is the only program authorized by Minnesota State law!

We can get your license valid and remove the suspensions. If you are unsure if you qualify for the program, apply for the program and we will get you the answer. View and print waiver: fill out the waiver in its entirety and follow the directions on the waiver.

Driving under a revoked license is stressful and can lead to more fines and fees or worse.   Being able to drive legally, go to work, tend to family needs, and be able to legitimately drive on the roads creates freedom and opportunity for you and your family.

Since 2009, the program has had over 12,000 participants legally reinstated.  The reinstatements provide individuals the right to regain the use of their driving privileges while paying any outstanding citations.

Here’s how it works

  1. Fill out the waiver in its entirety and mail, fax, or email a copy to us.
  2. Diversion Solutions presents your information to the Department of Vehicle Services and they conduct an initial review of your case.
  3. If approved, Diversion Solutions will call you to:
    1. Set up your payment plan
    2. Help you acquire insurance
    3. Schedule your required classroom training (4 Hours)

After this:

  • You will receive a certificate to take to DVS
  • Take your written and or driving test
  • Pay your $30 reinstatement fee
  • Receive your valid driver’s license.
  • You can trust that we can get this done with your participation and commitment.

Driving With Care

We are pleased to announce that Professional Counseling Center will be adding a new time and place to attend Driving with Care classes! Driving with Care classes can be taken in Buffalo on Saturday afternoon.

Driving with Care is a nationally recognized and approved DWI/DUI educational program. That means Driving with Care works with probation offices and requirements, whether local, metro area, greater Minnesota, or even out of state. Levels I and II are self-pay, as they are classes and not a clinical service.

Level I is a 12 hour program, 6 sessions: 1 session per week. Cost: $275.00

This class is offered in Delano on Wednesday evenings from 4-6pm or in Buffalo on Saturday from 12pm-2pm.

Level II is a 24 hour program, 12 sessions: 1 session per week. Cost: $390.00

This class is offered in Delano on Wednesday evenings from 6-8pm or in Buffalo on Saturday from 2pm-4pm.

The purpose of our Driving with Care Educational Program is to help develop skills to:

  • Prevent future driving while impaired by alcohol or other drugs.
  • Avoid future patterns of alcohol or other drug use that has caused you problems in the past, and have led to driving while impaired. This helps prevent recidivism and more legal and personal problems in the future.
  • Promote pro-social rather than anti-social behavior.

Our Driving with Care program satisfies the requirements of both the author and those of the court system.

50% of the fee for the class must be paid before the first class.
The remaining 50% is due by the last day of the class.
