Kindred Adolescent Recovery Services Intensive Outpatient Program

INTRODUCTION The Adolescent Intensive Outpatient program is licensed by the State of Minnesota as a Rule 31 intensive outpatient treatment program. The program provides integrated treatment for adolescents who have been diagnosed with both a substance use disorder and a mental health disorder.

POPULATION SERVED This program serves 13-17 year old clients who have a diagnosis of substance use disorder as defined by Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and, in most cases, a mental health diagnosis. Family programming is also provided and family members are encouraged to participate in the treatment process.

PROGRAM STRUCTURE & CONTENT The program operates from 5:45pm to 9:00pm on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 8:45am to 1:00pm on Saturday. There are additional afternoon programming options, including a mentorship program and family recreation, on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. Clients may have individual or family sessions scheduled outside of these times. The program can last anywhere from 12-36 weeks, and is structured to allow clients to participate in the program at an intensity level that fits their specific needs. The program is organized into different phases, which allow clients to advance through the treatment process by demonstrating consistent progress toward completion of their treatment goals and healthy attendance and participation habits.

Some of the services offered and therapeutic approaches utilized include:

· Group Therapy- utilizes elements from several different sources designed to treat both mental illness and chemical dependency.

· Trauma-Informed Care. These various approaches to treatment are selected and matched to the specific needs of each client and the overall group.

· Integrated Services: Both conditions will be treated simultaneously in an integrated manner rather than consecutively.

· School Coordination: Program staff will coordinate with each client’s school to monitor performance, collaborate on client care, and ensure health, progress and participation.

· Family Education and Supports: Focus will be placed on education and support for family members and significant others of those with co-occurring disorders.

· Peer Support: Peer supports may be integrated into the recovery plan.

· Family Recreation: Offered one Saturday per month in the afternoon, this is designed to help the family increase positive, recovery-oriented socialization and recreation habits

· Medication: There will be a prescriber available on staff or by consultation.

· Multi-Family Therapy: A therapeutic approach effective in broadening family members’ perspectives and understanding of the treatment process.
