Telephone Recovery Support Volunteer

Purpose

The purpose of the Telephone Recovery Support volunteer position is to call individuals who have requested this service, to ask how their recovery is progressing and to connect them to the resources they need to achieve and maintain their recovery.

Roles & Responsibilities

The roles and responsibilities of the Telephone Recovery Support volunteers include:

• Providing peer-to-peer recovery support by reaching out over the phone to “recoverees” who have been identified by Minnesota Recovery Connection
• Showing support by conducting “check-in calls” with recoverees 
• Utilizing active listening skills to ensure the recovoree is being heard
• Recognizing and encouraging recoverees’ strengths and achievements
• Identifying possible barriers to recovery and offering suggestions for removing those barriers
• Connecting recoverees to resources and organizations that can help remove barriers to recovery
• Maintaining and nurturing their own personal recovery in order to model the transformative power of recovery
• Sharing their own experience, strength, and hope with recoverees
• Practicing appropriate ethics and boundaries in accordance with Minnesota Recovery Connection guidelines
• Accurately representing the role of Minnesota Recovery Connection to the recovery community
• Complying with all Minnesota Recovery Connection policies and procedures outlined in the Volunteer Handbook

Requirements

• 6 months in personal or family recovery or experience as a recovery ally
• The desire to support others in their recovery
• Completion of the 4-hour Telephone Recovery Support Volunteer Training
• Completion of Volunteer Orientation
• A commitment to volunteer at Minnesota Recovery Connection offices for a minimum of two 3-hour shifts per month, for at least two months
• Agreement to use respectful and inclusive recovery language
• No violent or predatory convictions
